PREP
- Read ch. 3 of “Design is the Problem”. Give yourself time. This is a long and fairly dense chapter. Throughout, you will be reading about various “sustainability frameworks”, where a framework is an approach or “lens” for understanding sustainability and its impact on the design and development of products. As you read about each framework (this chapter covers 8 frameworks), think about how they differ with respect to how each addresses environmental issues, social issues, economic issues, and cultural issues (if at all).
- After you have read chapter 3 (but before you come to class), create a blog entry identifying which framework you think is “best” (and comment on what “best” means to you in this context).
LP Analysis Project
- Develop a workplan (list of steps, team due dates and meetings, and responsibilities by team member)
- Start making progress on background research for the front end of the assignment (4Cs, 4Ps)
- I would suggest having the front end fully drafted by Feb. 19th (if not sooner) so that you have sufficient time for the LP analysis itself (which will take more time and is a bigger component of the assignment grade)
- Tip for LP research: add to your keyword search terms “CSR” and “corporate social responsibility” – which are very common in industry
